Revealed: Tax compliance certificates scandal at KRA

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is under scrutiny after an official audit revealed it issued tax compliance certificates to 3,054 taxpayers with Sh3.12 billion in unpaid taxes. These certificates were issued without the required repayment plans, raising concerns over enforcement gaps. The audit also found that 265 certificates were auto-generated from the iTax system despite outstanding tax liabilities.
