Rise in Armed Motorcycle Thefts in Mbuji-Mayi

In Mbuji-Mayi (Kasai-Oriental), motorcycle riders are targeted by armed robberies. In less than a week, two riders were attacked: one wounded in the arm near Lac Lomba, another killed at Mobile. The governor expressed concern and demanded enhanced security measures. Protesters destroyed control barriers, and a police officer was accused of extorting motorcycles.

Assassination of UN experts in Kasai: 54 defendants sentenced to death

The High Military Court sentenced 54 people to death for the murder of UN experts Michael Sharp and Zaida Catalan, killed in March 2017 in Kasai. The convicts were found guilty of war crimes by murder. Those condemned include leaders of the Kamuina Nsapu militia and Colonel Jean de Dieu Mambueni, who was previously sentenced in 2017 for supplying ammunition used in the double murder.
