Road Fund: Who Is William Azebaze Jiofack, the New Director General?

William Azebaze Jiofack was appointed director general of Cameroon’s Road Fund by a presidential decree signed by Paul Biya on November 5, 2026. He previously served as an attaché at the General Secretariat of the Presidency, a post to which he was appointed on August 31, 2022, under Decree No. 2022/410. He now leads an institution that finances road-network maintenance and payments to companies carrying out the work. The ANC in the Western Cape will have to reassess its election strategy after a disappointing result in the 2026 local government elections. The Democratic Alliance (DA) would rather sit in opposition than form a coalition with parties it believes have mismanaged municipalities. Grant Twigg, a DA provincial executive committee member and Cape Town mayoral committee member, said the party could work with parties or independent candidates whose priorities and values align with its own, but would not enter coalitions simply to gain power.
