Ronaldo banned for 30 days, fined $285 by Portugal

The Portuguese Football Association suspended Cristiano Ronaldo for 30 days and fined him 255 euros ($285) after he left the national team camp. The 41-year-old departed Portugal’s base in Copenhagen following a dispute with coach Jorge Jesus over his role in the team, accusing Jesus of twice breaking his word. The disciplinary council upheld the charge but did not say which matches the ban would cover or whether time served under a provisional suspension would count. Ronaldo apologised for leaving his teammates and failing to acknowledge supporters after the Norway match, and said he remained available for selection after serving his punishment.

The EPFKIN committee held the draw for its 2026-2027 championship on October 19, 2026, after restructuring the competition into three groups of 16, 16 and 14 clubs following the arrival of six teams relegated from Linafoot. The winners of each group will compete in a triangular tournament to determine the champions, while the bottom four in each group will be relegated. Provincial executive secretary Jules Fila Kimfumu set the start date for November 2 and the end of the competition for May 31, 2027, provided three grounds are available. The championship, originally scheduled to begin on September 15, was delayed by administrative and logistical constraints.
