Row between Ukraine, South Korea mounts over North Korean POWs | News | Al Jazeera

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has expressed anger at Ukraine over comments made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the UN, which appeared to reveal a secret deal to transfer North Korean prisoners of war to Seoul. Lee accused Ukraine of undermining South Korea and warned that Zelenskyy’s remarks about an imminent conflict between North and South Korea risked inciting war on the Korean Peninsula. He called on Kyiv to acknowledge the agreement and apologize, criticizing Ukraine’s response as a diplomatic misunderstanding. The diplomatic dispute pits two US-aligned countries with strong militaries against each other, potentially complicating US efforts to maintain a united front against Russia, China, and North Korea.
