Rubio says Trump administration did not help Bolsonaro flee Brazil to US

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Trump administration did not help Flavio Bolsonaro leave Brazil after he lost the presidential election to Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. Bolsonaro arrived in Miami on the Wednesday after the October 25 vote, following a US announcement that he and his family would receive visas. Rubio said the US learned Bolsonaro had arrived and that Donald Trump decided to let him enter, but the government was not directly involved in his departure. Bolsonaro is under investigation in Brazil for alleged corruption, money laundering and tax evasion, and had been ordered to surrender his passport because police considered him a flight risk.
