Satellite images have revealed a radar installation near Gvardeysk in Russia’s Kaliningrad exclave, according to British media. The site has three antenna arrays, each about 500 metres long, and an estimated range of 885 to 3,200 kilometres, potentially allowing Russia to monitor military activity across Northern and Western Europe, as far as the United Kingdom. The over-the-horizon radar can detect aircraft, missiles and ships using radio waves reflected by the ionosphere. Its operational status and actual capabilities have not been confirmed.
