Russia shutters German consulate as diplomatic freeze deepens

Russia has ordered the closure of the German consulate in St. Petersburg, which must cease operations by September 18. This decision follows Berlin's closure of two Russian diplomatic operations in Germany after accusations regarding a drone attack attempt. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused Germany of provoking an escalation in bilateral relations and stated that Berlin's accusations marked the beginning of a real war.
