Russia – Ukraine: OpenAI chooses its side and will help fight cyberattacks

Ukraine will join OpenAI’s Daybreak cybersecurity program to strengthen the protection of its civilian infrastructure against cyber threats, with access to AI tools for identifying and fixing vulnerabilities. This cooperation comes as Kyiv faces nearly 6,000 cyberattack incidents in 2025, attributed to Russian actors, affecting sectors such as government, energy, telecommunications, and healthcare. OpenAI aims to support Ukrainian cyber defense by providing tools to analyze and secure systems, without involvement in military operations. Poland has already tested these capabilities through CERT Polska, which identified six vulnerabilities in MikroTik RouterOS, including a flaw that could allow full control of a device via SSH.
