Russian mercenaries to withdraw from Mali city after attacks

Russian mercenaries hired by Mali's military have agreed to withdraw from Kidal after two days of clashes with the Azawad Liberation Front (FLA), which claims control of the city. Mali's Defence Minister Sadio Camara was killed in the attacks near Bamako. The FLA stated that it had been preparing for this offensive for months, aiming to control Gao and then easily take Timbuktu.
