Ukraine's former commander-in-chief, General Oleksandr Syrskyi, told the BBC that the front line has stabilized and Russia's ability to advance has been broken due to heavy Russian casualties. He stated that Russian losses are six times higher than Ukraine's, up to 11 times in terms of deaths, with estimates of around 500,000 Russian soldiers killed since 2022 and up to 150,000 Ukrainian troops lost. Syrskyi credits technological advances, strategic targeting of weak points, and front stabilization for the current stalemate, noting that in September 2026, Russia lost more territory than it gained.
