Russia’s war in Ukraine puts Europe on edge

European countries fear Russia’s war in Ukraine could spill over into neighbouring NATO states, and point to drone incursions, cyberattacks and sabotage as evidence that it may already be doing so. DRC: Christophe Lutundula’s ADP condemns creation of the FRN and calls for stronger international sanctions against Kabila and his allies

The Alliance of Democrats for Progress (ADP), led by Christophe Lutundula, condemned the creation of the Front for the Refoundation of the Nation (FRN), a new politico-military movement launched by former president Joseph Kabila after the AFC/M23’s transformation. The party accuses Kabila of seeking to destabilize institutions and return to power by force, and blames Rwanda for violence in North and South Kivu. The ADP says Kabila’s parliamentary immunity was rightly lifted and his conviction by the High Military Court was justified, describing UN reports linking him to the AFC/M23 as credible. It urged Congolese people to support President Félix Tshisekedi, the FARDC and the Wazalendo groups.

GCC condemns Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia as Yemen fighting intensifies

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) condemned repeated Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed its support for the kingdom. Following a foreign ministers’ meeting in Manama, the six member states invoked their joint defence agreement, saying an attack on one member affected them all. The Saudi-led coalition said it had shot down two drones near Riyadh and in the Eastern Province, while Gulf ministers urged stricter enforcement of the UN arms embargo and called for the Houthis to be designated a terrorist organisation. Yemen’s internationally recognised government also asked the UN Security Council to act over attacks on homes and state facilities, including the presidential palace in Aden.
