Ruto Pledges to Address Wundanyi Teachers’ Hardship Allowance

President William Ruto has pledged to follow up on teachers’ requests for a hardship allowance in the coastal region due to challenging working conditions. During a visit to Taita Taveta, he stated he would work with relevant authorities to address the issue and acknowledged the region's difficult terrain. The Teachers Service Commission recognizes 44 hardship areas across several counties including Kitui, Isiolo, Wajir, Lamu, Kajiado, and Laikipia, among others. Ruto's comments come weeks after TSC clarified that there had been no changes to hardship allowances or designated areas as of July 2026.
