Bauchi: Witchcraft accusation sparks violent attack as 17 suspects are arrested

Bauchi State police arrested 17 suspects after a family was attacked in Gobirawa, in Alkaleri Local Government Area. The assailants allegedly accused the son of a 60-year-old man of causing the death of 20-year-old resident Halilu Ahmad through witchcraft; Ahmad died on October 16, and the attack took place around 1 a.m. on October 18. The father and his 30-year-old son were injured, and two family motorcycles were damaged; the father was transferred to Bauchi for treatment. Commissioner Sani-Omolori Aliyu ordered the case transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department and the search for three more suspects, urging residents to report allegations to police instead of taking the law into their own hands.
