Safaricom Admits Accessing Staff Personal Data and Transaction Information

Safaricom, Kenya's leading telecom, has admitted in court that it processed and used the personal data and transaction information of former employees during an internal investigation. These former employees are suing the company for alleged privacy violations, while Safaricom claims the handling of the information was lawful and necessary for investigations into conflicts of interest and abuse of office. The affidavit filed by Odhiambo Ooko, Safaricom's Chapter Lead for Employee and Labor Relations, states that the data was used for disciplinary proceedings and legal compliance.
