Sale of Documents: New Scandal Erupts Around Senegal’s Civil Registration System

Abdou Karim Diallo, a resident of Salémata in the Kédougou region, was arrested by Senegal’s National Division for the Fight Against Migrant Trafficking (DNLT) on suspicion of links to a network trafficking Senegalese identity documents. A search of his home uncovered civil-status papers from 19 different registration centers, including birth certificates, nationality certificates, court rulings in favor of foreigners, and blank or completed forms. Diallo said the documents had been given to him by people applying for nationality certificates.

Karamo Cissé Ndiaye arrested for Aminata Sy’s murder after violent dispute

Karamo Cissé Ndiaye was arrested around midnight on Tuesday in Ndiapandal Bou Ndaw, in the commune of Kaël, after police in Mbacké acted on a tip. The merchant, wanted in connection with the killing of high-school student Aminata Sy, admitted killing her and said an argument had escalated into a fatal fight. He reportedly told investigators that he had wanted to marry her after sending money to her and her mother, but that her family refused the marriage. Seventeen-year-old Aminata Sy was found dead in a rice sack in Podor, bound and having had her throat cut; the suspect is to be handed over to the gendarmerie investigating the case.

Sowore slams Tinubu over DSS arrest of Atiku supporter

Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), accused Bola Tinubu’s administration of using the Department of State Services (DSS) to silence critics. Mubarak Abdullahi, also known as Sardaunan Samari, was arrested after posting on Facebook a fake letter attributed to Tinubu and addressed to the U.S. president, captioned “ATIKU IS COMING.” The DSS filed three charges related to cybercrime and defamation against him at the Federal High Court in Kaduna; Abdullahi admitted sharing the document, apologised and was remanded in custody. Sowore called the arrest sad and warned that those responsible would eventually be held accountable.
