São Tomé and Príncipe: Opposition Leads Legislative Elections

The São Tomé and Príncipe Liberation Movement (MLSTP) won 24 of the 55 seats in the National Assembly in the legislative elections, ahead of the Independent Democratic Action (ADI) with about 23 seats. The MCI-PS/PUN holds 6 seats, and Basta has 2, positioning MCI-PS/PUN as a key player in forming a majority. President Carlos Vila Nova, re-elected recently, is from the ADI, which now needs to negotiate with other parties to form the government.
