Saudi national charged with planting a listening device at OpenAI offices

U.S. federal agents arrested Abdulrahman Alfozan, a 35-year-old Saudi national, and charged him with planting a hidden audio recording device in a conference room at OpenAI's California offices, where he was employed as an engineer since July 2025. On September 30, OpenAI discovered the device plugged into a USB port behind a television, and a camera captured Alfozan checking behind the television last week. Alfozan, a legal permanent resident of the U.S. since September 2020, appeared in court on a charge of attempting to use a device to intercept oral communications.
