Search under way for four soldiers missing after gang attack in Haiti

Four Salvadoran aviation technicians serving with the UN-backed Gang Suppression Force (GSF) are missing after an explosive attack on their armoured vehicle in Croix-des-Bouquets, north of Port-au-Prince. They escaped the burning vehicle while returning to camp, but fighting has hampered attempts to locate them by land and air. Helicopters sent to establish contact also came under fire, and the GSF advised residents to remain indoors. It is the first major attack on the force, which has more than 1,500 troops in Haiti and is expected to reach full operational capacity by the end of the year.
