Security agencies step up surveillance after suspected Lakurawa attack in Kebbi

Security agencies have intensified surveillance in Kebbi State following an attack by suspected Lakurawa terrorists on a construction site along the Sokoto-Badagry highway in Maiyama. The attack on October 7, 2026, in Gubba Village resulted in the deaths of two security personnel and a foreign national, with two civilians injured by gunfire. Police stated the attackers originated from the Kebbe area in neighboring Sokoto State, and joint security forces responded to a second attack the same day, neutralizing several attackers. Construction work has been suspended, and additional security personnel have been deployed to protect workers and prevent further incidents.
