Senate dissociates itself from warrant of arrest issued against Mele Kyari

The Nigerian Senate distanced itself from the arrest warrant issued by its Public Accounts Committee against former NNPC Group CEO Mele Kyari for failing to appear. The upper chamber declared that no committee has the authority to issue a warrant without the Senate President's approval and compliance with the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act. Senator Opeyemi Bamidele raised the matter during a session on Thursday, and the Senate reaffirmed that only the Senate President can authorize such a warrant. Meanwhile, Senator Adams Oshiomhole defended himself against allegations of calling the NNPC a 'bunch of criminals and thieves'.
