Senate urges federal government to protect Aiyetoro from sea incursion

Nigeria’s Senate has urged the federal government to urgently protect Aiyetoro, in Ondo State, from Atlantic Ocean surges and coastal erosion. A motion sponsored by Senator Dayo Faduyile said reports indicate that about 80% of buildings in the historic community have been lost, threatening residents, livelihoods and public infrastructure. The Senate called for a funded shoreline-protection programme, immediate humanitarian assistance for affected residents and a transparent review of existing protection contracts. Senate committees will monitor implementation and report back within four weeks.
