Sentenced to 22 Years in Prison, Modou Ngom Responds by Reciting Surah Al-Ikhlas (Video)

Senegalese truck driver Modou Ngom was sentenced on October 29, 2026, to 22 and a half years in prison in Ohio over an Interstate 71 crash that killed a family of three and injured five others. Before sentencing, he recited Surah Al-Ikhlas, said the tragedy was not intentional, and offered condolences to the victims’ relatives. The judge cited the seriousness of the crash, Ngom’s lack of remorse, and evidence that he had obtained his commercial driver’s license under another identity. The maximum sentence includes consecutive terms and a lifetime license suspension for the most serious counts; no fine was imposed while a civil case remains pending.
