SERAP urges Tinubu government to disclose details of ₦50,000 relief payments, beneficiaries and safeguards

SERAP has urged Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction Minister Bernard Doro to disclose funding and implementation details of NERSI, a programme offering ₦50,000 in assistance to vulnerable Nigerians. In a freedom of information request dated 7 November 2026, the organisation sought details including eligibility and verification criteria, beneficiaries’ geographical distribution, spending and whether payments will be one-off or monthly. It also called for the ICPC and EFCC to monitor the programme and investigate potential corruption. SERAP warned that the publicly funded assistance must not be used for political influence, particularly ahead of the 2027 general elections.
