Serbia’s snap election: Can Vucic outmanoeuvre the student revolt?

For weeks, young people in Serbia have been protesting against the government, with over 100,000 taking to the streets in March 2025. The student movement, demanding early elections for nearly two years, prompted President Aleksandar Vucic to call snap parliamentary elections for October 25, although they were not originally scheduled until December 2027. Vucic appears to be using the protests to cling to power, despite ongoing political tensions and the 2024 railway station canopy collapse that resulted in 16 deaths.
