Seventeen erosion sites threaten the Kananga-Kalamba Mbuji road in Kasaï-Central

Seventeen erosion sites have been identified along the first 60 kilometres of the Kananga-Kalamba Mbuji road, which is being modernized in Kasaï-Central. After an inspection on October 31, provincial governor Joseph-Moïse Kambulu warned that erosion threatens the viability of the route linking the DRC and Angola, affecting areas including Matamba, Kempe, Katshiabala, Shamatengu and Kalenga. He urged project stakeholders to speed up the work, which has slowed. The Congolese Agency for Major Works says anti-erosion work is planned and that modernization has advanced along more than 50 kilometres, including 28 kilometres fully asphalted; the first 60 kilometres are expected to be delivered by the end of the month.
