Sierra Leone: 4.4% Growth, but 82% of Population Food Insecure

Sierra Leone experienced a GDP growth of 4.4% in 2024, driven by agriculture and services, but this is lower than the 5.7% growth in 2023 due to falling iron ore prices and electricity shortages. Despite macroeconomic stability, 82% of the population faces food insecurity, with 18% in severe conditions. Inflation dropped sharply from 52.2% to 13.8%, but poverty increased from 57.8% to 60%, and public debt rose to 69.9 billion leones.
