On October 1, 2026, Maurice Kengne Kamga, a Cameroonian diplomat, academic, and international law jurist specializing in public international law and the law of the sea, was elected president of the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea for the 2026-2029 term. He was elected during the Tribunal's sixty-second administrative session. Kamga, a Tribunal member since 2020, is required to reside permanently at the Tribunal's headquarters in Hamburg and to preside over meetings, oversee its work, and represent the institution in its relations with states.
