Slavery: UN calls for widespread reparations

A UN Committee has recommended that signatory states of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination implement reparative measures for people of African descent. This document, approved by 18 independent experts, proposes a new interpretation of the Convention adopted in 1969, emphasizing that obligations to combat racial discrimination include reparations for harms related to the transatlantic slave trade.
