Sleepy Lamu port slowly awakens as an alternative gateway to East Africa

Lamu port, once nearly moribund, is experiencing a resurgence due to the war in the Middle East, which has increased its shipping traffic. In March and April, Lamu received over 6,000 heavy-duty vehicles destined for Dubai's Jebel Ali Port due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. In April alone, the port recorded 34 vessels, the highest number since the conflict began, and welcomed pure car carrier vessels for the first time.
