Somalia, Somaliland leaders seek US attention at UN meet

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Somaliland leader Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro attended the UN General Assembly in New York this week, highlighting the ongoing debate over Somaliland's independence following Israel's controversial recognition last December. The delegation aimed to seek recognition from Washington similar to Israel's, meeting with officials from the State Department, Pentagon, Treasury, and Energy. Their goal was to push for US recognition of Somaliland's independence.
