South Africa: 65-year-old swimmer killed by a shark

A 65-year-old swimmer was killed in a shark attack on Tuesday morning at Orient Beach in KuGompo, South Africa. Police were called at around 7 a.m. and opened an investigation into the circumstances of her death. Mike Loewe said open-water swimmers brought her ashore and a group first aider tried to save her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene. Recently retired as a nuclear radiologist and also a musician, she enjoyed swimming alone; the municipality closed the beach.
