South Africa and Mozambique jointly commemorate Samora Machel

South Africa and Mozambique jointly commemorated former Mozambican president and freedom fighter Samora Machel on Monday, marking 40 years since his death in a mysterious plane crash in 1986. The ceremony took place in Mbuzini, in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province, near the crash site. Machel’s daughter, Josina Ziyaya Machel, said her father and the three other people who died had given their lives for South Africa’s liberation. Mozambican President Daniel Chapo praised the independent and respected voice Machel gave Mozambique after it gained independence in 1975.
