South Africa and Mozambique pay tribute to Samora Machel

South Africa and Mozambique paid tribute to Samora Machel at a joint ceremony in Mbuzini, in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province, on Monday, marking 40 years since his death in a 1986 plane crash. His daughter, Josina Ziyaya Machel, said her father and the three other people killed had given their lives for South Africa’s liberation. Machel led Mozambique from its independence from Portugal in 1975 until his death. Mozambican President Daniel Chapo praised the independent voice and respected presence Machel had secured for his country.
