South Africa: Cyril Ramaphosa acknowledges government measures are insufficient against femicides - Lebledparle

Cyril Ramaphosa stated that despite measures taken over the past seven years to combat gender-based violence and femicides in South Africa, the situation remains alarming. He reported the discovery of 11 female bodies in Ekurhuleni since July 2026, without confirming if all crimes were committed by the same perpetrator. Progress has been made in some cases with several suspects arrested, but he announced new initiatives to strengthen efforts against these violences. A national operation will also be launched to review unresolved cases.
