South Africa: “No electricity, no vote” — township anger targets the ANC

In Katlehong, near Johannesburg, around 180 households have relied on illegal electricity connections for more than 20 years because they have not been officially connected to the grid. Diri defended the development potential of coastal communities and thanked the president for backing the road project, which he said could address poverty and the dehumanising conditions faced by the region.

The program also examines stalled peace processes in eastern DR Congo, where meetings and discussions have brought no change on the ground. It further reports on the temporary suspension of new admissions to Makala Central Prison, which holds at least 16,155 people despite being designed for 1,500, including 303 women and 201 minors.
