South Africa: Two people convicted over burglary at Ramaphosa’s farm

A regional court in Limpopo convicted two people for their roles in the 2020 burglary at Phala Phala, President Cyril Ramaphosa’s farm, where large amounts of foreign currency were reportedly hidden in furniture. Imanuwela David, described as the alleged mastermind, was found guilty on three of four charges, including money laundering. A farm housekeeper was convicted of aiding a burglary with intent to steal, while her brother was acquitted. David was arrested after spending money on luxury cars, a diamond-encrusted Rolex and property; Ramaphosa denies wrongdoing over the money’s origins or the handling of the theft.
