South Africa's Sharpeville massacre survivors start legal fight for justice and compensation

Abraham Mofokeng, a survivor of the Sharpeville massacre, announced a legal case to overturn an indemnity law that prevented the prosecution of those responsible for the violent suppression of the peaceful protest on March 21, 1960. On that day, 69 protesters were shot dead by police, marking a pivotal event in the anti-apartheid movement. Although apartheid ended in 1994, survivors feel they have not received justice. The local memorial park honors the victims with 69 white pillars, each representing a lost life.
