South Kivu: FARDC/Wazalendo and Twirhaneho/AFC clash in several villages in Itombwe

Violent clashes broke out on the evening of September 26, 2026, in several villages in the Itombwe sector, Mwenga territory, South Kivu. The fighting mainly occurred in Maheta, Magunda, Nabuhera, Kakuku, and Musonjo, where AFC/M23 Twirhaneho fighters attacked, attempting to advance towards Masango before being pushed back. These clashes caused a large displacement of local residents to other villages in the Basimukindji and Bijombo groupings.
