South Korea suspects North Korean mines behind DMZ blast

South Korea suspects that a recent explosion in the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that injured three military personnel was caused by North Korean landmines. The Joint Chiefs of Staff indicated that preliminary investigations with the United Nations Command suggest recently planted mines were involved. The 248 km long and 4 km wide DMZ remains heavily armed, and tensions between Seoul and Pyongyang have increased. Three South Korean officers were severely wounded in the explosion on September 21 in the western sector of the DMZ.
