South Sudan Advances the East African Political Confederation Agenda

South Sudan has initiated national consultations in Juba to draft the Constitution for the East African Community Political Confederation, running until October 7, 2026. These consultations aim to gather citizens' views on this transitional model, which is a step toward a full political federation of the EAC. The process involves constitutional experts and public hearings in multiple cities, engaging various stakeholders including government, civil society, and the private sector. South Sudan’s Minister of EAC Affairs, Michael Makuei Lueth, emphasized citizen participation, while EAC Secretary General Stephen P. Mbundi acknowledged South Sudan’s progress in political transition.
