Spain’s football federation (RFEF) will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport after FIFA rejected its challenge to sanctions over Islamophobic chants during March’s friendly against Egypt. FIFA fined the federation $20,000 and ordered it to close at least 15 percent of available seats for Spain’s next home friendly. At the RCDE Stadium near Barcelona, some fans chanted, “If you don’t jump, you’re a Muslim,” during the goalless World Cup warm-up match. Lamine Yamal condemned the chants, while the RFEF disputed FIFA’s classification of them under its rules against discrimination.
