SPCA offers R5,000 reward after baboon Fluffy dies from pellet injuries
The Cape of Good Hope SPCA is seeking information following the death of Fluffy, the alpha male of the CT2 baboon troop, after X-rays revealed numerous pellets lodged throughout his body, including in his spine and around his internal organs. Fluffy had also lost control of his bladder and was seen dragging his hind legs in footage received on October 7, 2026. Due to the severity of his injuries, veterinarians decided to euthanise him. The SPCA is offering a R5,000 reward for any information that could help identify and prosecute those responsible, warning that urban baboons face abuse, inappropriate food, and conflicts with people.
