SSCE fee hike too high, says NAPTAN; NUT leaves decision to parents

NAPTAN, the National Parent Teacher Association of Nigeria, described the proposed increase in registration fees for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE) conducted by WAEC and NECO as excessive. Chairman of NAPTAN's Board of Trustees, Chief Deolu Ogunbanjo, said the over 75% increase was too steep and suggested a gradual raise of not more than 25%. The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), through its President Audu Titus Amba, stated that the issue is for parents to decide, but he disclosed that the union would hold a press conference on Monday on issues affecting teachers and the education sector.
