State Announces Ksh200K Compensation Package for Utumishi Girls Fire Tragedy Victims

The Kenyan government announced a compensation of Ksh200,000 for each family of the 16 victims of the dormitory fire at Utumishi Girls Academy. The state will also cover medical expenses for over 79 hospitalized students and funeral costs. A mother who died in a road accident while rushing to the school will also be compensated. The fire, which occurred on May 28, 2026, was started by students.
