The operation included a 364-day Treasury bill and three- and five-year bonds, maturing in 2027, 2029 and 2031, respectively. “With average tax revenues below 15%, governments still have room to fund nutrition” — Driss Zine Eddine (World Bank Group)

During a visit to Togo, Driss Zinedine, the World Bank Group’s regional health, nutrition and population director for West and Central Africa, discussed stunting and nutrition funding. He said malnutrition undermines productivity, employment and wealth creation, and that stunting could still affect 16% of the region’s population in 2050 if current trends continue. To increase national funding, he called for more efficient spending, stronger domestic revenue mobilization—the region’s tax-to-GDP ratio is below 15%, compared with a recommended 20%—and partnerships with the private sector, development partners and civil society. An additional $81 million in financing for Togo was approved in December 2025.

Alake’s Attack on Atiku Won’t Cut Food Prices, ADC Campaign Fires Back

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign Council accused Information Minister Dele Alake of diverting attention from economic hardship by targeting former vice president Atiku Abubakar. Strategic communication director Phrank Shaibu demanded evidence linking Atiku or the ADC to an allegedly fabricated letter and video, citing petrol at about ₦1,400 per litre, diesel above ₦2,000 and food inflation near 20%. Shaibu also criticized the APC rally in Kaduna, referring to supporters who travelled from distant states and reportedly slept outdoors, as well as accidents whose details remained unconfirmed. The ADC said President Bola Tinubu’s economic record, rather than attacks on the opposition, would determine voters’ judgment.
