State police: Governors have abdicated their duty - Falana

Human rights lawyer Femi Falana accused state governors of abandoning their constitutional duties in the management of the Nigeria Police Force. He argued that Nigeria operates a federation police, not a federal police, and that the Police Council, which includes all 36 governors, has not met since 1999. Falana questioned the need for state police, noting that many states already have local security outfits like Amotekun, Hisbah, and the Civilian Joint Task Force. He called for better funding and equipment of existing structures rather than creating new agencies.
