A fire occurred on the night of April 30 to May 1, 2026, affecting Metafrique Steel's facilities in Douala, injuring at least ten people, including nine Cameroonians and one Indian. Some victims are in critical condition and are receiving treatment at the General Hospital of Douala. The company's management has decided to temporarily suspend production pending the results of investigations. This is not the first incident at the site, as a partial fire had already occurred in April 2022.
