Strait of Hormuz: Two supertankers hit by mines, Iran says

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps navy says two supertankers struck naval mines in the southern Strait of Hormuz on Friday. The explosions reportedly caused engine-room fires, disabled the vessels and led to the evacuation of their crews; according to Tehran, the ships were carrying more than 4.5 million barrels of crude oil. Iran said they were using an unauthorized route, but the claims could not be independently verified. UKMTO also reported that a tanker was hit by a projectile of unknown origin near Oman on Thursday evening.
