Subsidy removal: Tinubu says he has no regrets and rules out going back

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu defended the removal of the fuel subsidy on Monday, saying he had no regrets and that the country could not “go back to Egypt,” a reference to reversing reforms. Speaking at a forum at the Presidential Villa in Abuja organised by the City Boy Movement and the “Relax, Tinubu Is Fixing Nigeria” movement, he thanked supporters and praised his son Seyi, patron of the City Boy Movement, which backs his re-election. Tinubu cited financial problems inherited from his predecessor, including debts to airlines and low foreign reserves, and defended his government’s tax and economic reforms. He urged supporters to mobilise for the 2027 election, framing their campaign as a defence of their own future and the “Renewed Hope” programme.

The new division will have a broader mandate than research and will not replace the NIH’s Office of Research on Women’s Health. Priorities include targeted research into diseases affecting women, such as endometriosis, and getting promising treatments to female patients sooner.
